Enable iOS4 options on iPod Touch 2G [Tutorial]

This is a tutorial on how to enable features like multitasking or homescreen wallpaper for the iPod Touch 2G.

Required jailbroken iPod Touch 2G on either:
iOS 4
iOS 4.0.2
iOS 4.1

First: Install iFile
Open Cydia. Wait until its done updating/reloading data, then tap 'Manage', 'Sources', 'Edit', and 'Add'. Type http://sinfuliphonerepo.com/ and tap 'Add'. Acknowledge that the Repo is illegal and wait while Cydia is refreshing sources. Then tap 'Mange', 'Sources' and SiNFuL iPhone Repo. Scroll down to iFile Cracked, install and confirm. Exit Cydia.

Second: Open N72AP.plist
Open iFile and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app and open the N72AP.plist. There will be listed all the capabilites.

Third: How to add
To add a capability, search for the right spot (alphabetical order) and press return after <true/>. Then press the spacebar until the alignment is correct and type:

Multitasking:

Homescreen Wallpaper:

Battery Percentage:

<key>gas-gauge-battery</key>

For battery percentace the following line is required (true or false):

Unified-iPod combines the Music and Video apps into one iPod app, just like on the iPhone.

Then you need to enable it in Settings:

Either in Settings, General and Usage or in Settings, General (scroll down).

This website pretends to have the jailbreak for both Windows and Mac and there is a a blog update for the 17th of September. They use the genuine greenp0ison logo (http://greenpois0n.com/ or http://greenpois0n.com/gp_web.png). To download you need to fill out a survey.

This website was probably launched before #1 because they put the 0 in greenpois0n in the wrong place (greenp0ison). There is one download link for both Windows and Mac (!) and there’s a copyright without the copyright symbol (©). There was a blog update on the 15^th September.

How to Download - Instructions

Steep 1. Click the Download button above to go to Download Page.

Steep 2. On download page, Select 'Regular Download'. A survey will appear to verify that you are a human and not a bot, this is to protect the number of file downloads, which is 5000. So we are only offering each tool to the first 5000 visitors. Simply fill in a short free survey and then download the file.

Steep 3. Once you fill the survey, the download will start, just Save it to your desktop and do the instructions as explained above.

Whats really funny is that he capitalized SHAtter wrong (shATter). Also he wrote 'Wait until the program play...' and misspelled step (Steep). He probably used Google translator. Additionally he claims that there are only 5000 downloads. He probably is polish because there is some evidence of a polish blog and the home-link at the bottom sais 'Strona główna' which is polish for home. If you click on the link, you get redirected to http://filesmy.com/0g6r94 where you can download it by filling out a survey or paying 3.99$ for a 3 day premium membership.

This website claims is has the jailbreak for windows and mac but what’s funny is that if you click on any of the pictures (greenpois0n logo, windows logo, apple logo) you only get the direct link to the picture. Only the download button at the bottom works, then you have to fill out a survey. Blog update on the 17th September. In the YouTube video there is the link to the website and a Hotfile link. The Hotfile link is hilarious: http://hotfile.com/dl/70511059/4ad8e3... Yeah! That right! It doesn’t work. It just a started link with some dots at the end.

5: Bluera1n

There is a new jailbreak tool called Bluera1n on YouTube. There is a Megaupload download link to a RAR file (145 KB) which is password protected. You only get a readme.txt which gives you the link for a password: http://fileme.us/2F7d81. There you need to fill out a survey or pay 3.99$ for a 3 day premium membership. On the YouTube video there is also a link to a Customized iTunes for Bluera1n. This also gives you a RAR to which you need a password. The link is in the unencrypted readme: http://fileme.us/2F7d82.

6: Oilra1n

The oilra1n download link is the same for Windows and Mac (!):http://sharecash.org/download.php?file=1235165. You need to fill out a survey to download.

7: iJailbreak 4.1

There is an iJailbreak download link in the youtube video which lets you download an exe from Mediafire. The EXE is 213 KB big. The difference to the others is that this one actually works! At least it shows a half decent imitation of a jailbreak program. There are some general instructions. The only flaw is that you can tick both MC and Non MC.

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 (iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 2G) [Tutorial]

This a tutorial on how to jailbreak the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G using redsn0w 0.9.6b1.

Required:
Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 (download here)
iPhone 3G or iPod 2G
iTunes
Internet access

Step 1:
Open redsn0w and browse for the IPSW. You can download it here.
Click next.

Step 2:
Select options:
Install Cydia - This will install Cydia.
Enable Multitasking - This will enable multitasking.
Enable Homescreen Wallpaper  - This will enable homescreen wallpaper. Select wallpaper in Settings.
Enable Battery Percentage - This will enable the battery percentage. Enable in Settings.
Verbose Boot - Shows the iBoot detailed.
Custom boot/recovery logo - These need at least one transparent pixel and have to be 320 x 480.

Step 3:
Turn iPod off and enter DFU mode. Instructions are there. Then just click next.
Redsn0w will jailbreak and reboot.

Done!

Sn0wbreeze 2.0 and 2.0.1 released!

On Wednesday at 6 PM CPT sn0wbreeze 2.0 was released and shortly afterwards sn0wbreeze 2.0.1 which fixes a bug with a packed file. Sn0wbreeze creates a custom IPSW to which you restore using iTunes. Sn0wbreeze is compatible with iTunes 10.

The redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 1 was released on Tuesdayto jailbreak 4.1. Redsn0w doesnt use the new SHAtter exploit but the old one used previously to jailbreak the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.
Redsn0w currently only supports Mac OS X.

New iPod Touch isnt as good as presumed?

There are news that the new iPod touch 4G doesnt hold what he promised:

• According to the iFixit teardown the iPod Touch 4G has exactly the same marking as the iPad processor. This means that there is only 256 MB of RAM.
• The camera found in the rear, can only shoot photos with 960x640 resolution. That is about 0.7 Megapixel (the iPhone 4 has 5.0 MP). The front camera is almost identical.
• No vibrator! On the Apple website it said that the iPod Touch 4G had a vibrator to respond to FaceTime calls. Later the website was edited and the line removed. iFixit didnt find any vibrator in the iPod Touch.

What is tethered and untethered?

If a jailbreak is tethered, you have to connect to the computer once you reboot to rejailbreak.
If a jailbreak is untetherd, you can reboot without having to connect to a computer.

New Bootroom jailbreak?

There are rumours going around the internet that there will be a new bootroom jailbreak for all iOS devices.

A bootroom jailbreak is a jailbreak that you have to do with your device powered off, for example redsn0w. A userland jailbreak is a jailbreak with the device on like Spirit or Star (jailbreakme.com).
The exploit was found on the day iOS 4.1 was released by p0sixninja and pod2g.

The good thing about this exploit is that it works on all devices and will support all future firmwares. To patch this exploit, Apple will need to make hardware modifications.

It is yet unknown if this jailbreak is tethered or untethered (What is tethered and untethered?).

How to enter DFU mode

This is a tutorial on how to enter DFU-Mode on your iDevice.

Works with:
iPod Touch 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G
iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4
iPad

Step 1:
Turn your Device off by holding the lock-button and sliding over.

Step 2:
Hold the lock-button and the home button for 10 seconds. Then release the lock button and hold only the home button for 10 more seconds. Done! You are in DFU mode.

Do I have an MC-Model?

This is a tutorial for everyone to find out if you have an MC-Model.

Works with:
iPod Touch 2G

Step 1:
On your iDevice, open Settings. Tap General and Info.

Step 2:
Under 'Model' you see your device model. If it starts with MC, you have a MC-Model!

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 (iPhone 3G)

This is a tutorial on how to jailbreak the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch 2G (non MC-Model) on iOS 4.1.

Required:

Access to the internet

iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G non MC-Model running 4.1 (Do I have a MC-Model?)

Step 1:

Unzip and run redsn0w. Browse for the iOS 4.0 IPSW you downloaded for your iDevice.

Step 2:

Click next and wait. Warning: if you don't have internet access redsn0w will crash at this point!

Then put a tick next to 'Install Cydia' and click next.

Step 3:

Connect your iDevice to your computer and turn it off. Then enter DFU mode (How to enter DFU mode).

Step 4:

Wait while your iDevice is being jailbroken. Once done it will reboot. Enjoy your newly jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch running iOS 4.1!
